We caught up with Guy Williams the other day ahead of his final Black Rabbit night of the season at We Love Space, to find out a little more about what he has been up to this summer in Ibiza.
– How has your summer been? Fill us in on what has been going
on?
It’s fair to say it’s been a pretty crazy summer, backwards and forwards to Ibiza for both our Black Rabbit residency at We Love Space and mine and Thomas Gandey’s 4 date residency with Paradise 45 at Aura, as well as some other gigs along the way! Summer was kicked off with the Snowbombing festival in Austria, where both the Paradise 45 and Black Rabbit parties rocked hard and other festivals included Lovebox and
Secret Garden Party (my fave).
– The final Black Rabbit night at Space is coming up on Sunday
4th September. You will be joined by DRW and Maxxi Soundsystem for
this one. It’s the last one of the summer, are you expecting a special night?
Yes for sure, we have a large crew, both visiting the island and those
that are resident here that are coming down, as well as it being one of my best friend’s birthdays! So good music, a great crowd and some giddy antics are to be expected.
– How have the other Black Rabbit nights at Space been going
this summer? Any particular highlights for you?
They have been going really well, I’d say that after doing four nights last year people know we are there now and we tend to be the place that a lot of the workers and other dj’s end up at.
– The last of your Paradise 45 parties at Aura is coming up on
Thursday with Faze Action and Maxxi Soundsystem joining you and Thomas Gandey. It is the last Paradise 45 of the summer, are you excited about it and what can we expect?
It certainly is the last one, cant believe it’s come round already! With a line up like that of course you can expect it to be rocking and if its anything like the last party with Justin Robertson then your in for a real treat!
– What was the idea behind Paradise 45 when you and Thomas Gandey started it up?
Myself and Thomas Gandey had been talking for some time about producing music together and we have been loving a lot of the ‘nu-disco/future disco’ that has been released recently. We came up with the name as we have taken a lot of our influences from the heady days of disco at Paradise garage in New York and early Manchester clubbing influences from the Hacienda and Paradise factory. And of course, 45 is the abbreviation for a 7” single!
– Thomas Gandey was telling us about the parties you have done
in London at Dalston Superstore – from trashy East London to cocktails at Aura, is there a different feel to the parties in Ibiza? How has the idea translated on the island?
Well to be honest, it has worked well because its all about the music, and the soundtrack of deep house, future disco, italo, 80’s and classic US house works well in both environments. We are actually re-launching in London after a summer break at a great venue called East Bloc on City Road, Old Street near Shoreditch, last Friday of the month starting Friday 28th October so keep your eyes peeled for more info.
– Are there any island secrets you can fill us in on?
The fish shack is great for, yes you guessed it, great fish, but they do other things as well and they are kind of hidden over the rocks by Sa Punta at the end of Talamanca beach. I am heading there this week for sure!
– And finally, what are your plans for the rest of the year?
Focusing on the new Paradise 45 monthly in London as mentioned above, and working on more Paradise 45 productions and remixes with Thomas Gandey and finishing mine and Dan Williams’ new EP as The Shack, signed to Faze Action recordings to follow up our debut, ‘Touch It EP’ out now!
